Charlie Hebdo - In Memoriam

This post is dedicated to the memory of the slain. And there is no better way to remember them than by reproducing some of their work. But first, a good, albeit not very appetizing, comment on the massacre from a good selection on CNN here (to be mentioned at the end of the post again):

Update: a part missing since I didn't have the names until now.

Charb, Cabu, Tignous, Honoré, Wolinski, Bernard Maris, Elsa Cayat, Frédéric Boisseau, Michel Renaud, Moustapha Ourad, Merabet Ahmed, Franck Brinsolaro: Rest in peace.

And now to the original work (courtesy of The Daily Banter)

This was tweeted out the morning of massacre by Charlie Hebdo. It’s the leader of ISIS and the staff offers him “best wishes.”
From October of last year. Muhammad being beheaded by an ISIS fighter. He’s shouting, “I’m the prophet, you asshole,” while his killer says back, “Shut your trap, infidel.”

2011: Muhammad “guest edits” Charlie Hebdo. Translation: “100 lashes if you don’t die laughing.” This likely led the newspapers office to be firebombed a few weeks later.

The follow-up cover to the Muhammad edition. Translation: “Love is stronger than hate.”

As a response to the Muslim reaction to The Innocence of Muslims, a cheap movie that was allegedly the impetus for the attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Charlie Hebdo published this: Muhammad posing for a camera. On the left, the caption reads, “A star is born”; on the right, it reads, “The film that will set the Muslim world on fire.” Muhammad is saying in the shot, “My ass? You love my ass?”

This cover references the French film, The Intouchables. Translation: “Shouldn’t laugh.”

In 2006, following the publication of the images of Muhammad in the Danish magazine Jyllands-Posten, which set off a firetorm of outrage, Charlie Hebdo republished the images and slapped this cover on the issue. Here, Muhammad is saying, “It’s hard to be loved by these idiots.”

In 2002, the paper ran this: a cartoon depicting Muhammad picking “Miss Potato Sack.”

Translation: “Charlie Hebdo must be censored.”

And this completes the selection. Now what remains is a nod in the direction of that CNN set of cartoons, selected by one Nick Thompson. In his infinite wisdom (or, possibly directed by a CNN editor of some kind, he added a cartoon by Carlos Latuff, a notorious anti-Semite and all around shitbag:

Of course, it is possible that Mr Thompson (or whoever guided him) doesn't understand the meaning of the cartoon, but it remains to us to guess whether it's idiocy or malice that caused it to be published. And it doesn't really matter for now.

I kind of like the last one. Every time one of these things goes down, Islam overall indeed suffers, which seemed to be al-Sisi's point in urging reform the other day.

Strangely I can't gather in myself enough compassion for Islam. Why is that, I wonder?

By the way, so far 4 dead in the kosher deli...

Notice how whenever one of these clowns goes off his meds on the air, the rant is always Leftist and frequently anti-Semitic. Showing what's lurking behind the hair-sprayed facade. Just once I'd like to hear one spout some Ayn Rand or Tea Party slogan. Naw.

Yeah... I am still trying to understand why all of a sudden he went on that rant. Totally disassociated from the topic of discussion. Must have been seriously drunk. Or high, whatever.

His pals down at the mosque are looking pretty bad after Paris. Felt he had to redress it, I'd guess.

I'm just noting the obvious, not expressing compassion for the goat-lovers much less the murderers.

I'll post that last cartoon tomorrow with suitable caveats and link to your recitation of the cartoons. There are advantages in being anonymous.

That's for sure a good part of my courage ;-)

Cannot figure him out. I only know that he looks very regal on the screen when you watch CNN. All that carefully treated hair...

So why are the people leaving France in tens of thousands not muslims, but jews?

Dick Stanley said...

Irish Catholics never were known for their great love of Jews.

Hm... I didn't think of that angle. Possibly true, which makes it all the more sad.
