ASA boycott of Israel: "one has to start somewhere"

This is so revealing:

The bias expressed by the ASA, a body not versed in the complexities of Middle Eastern affairs, stems from the proposal to boycott only one country, Israel. Even the current president of ASA, Curtis Marez, Professor of Ethnic Studies at UC San Diego whose main interest is U.S. Latinos, appeared troubled in explaining his tortuous logic on the issue.

He confessed that many countries, including Israel’s neighbors, are generally judged to have human rights records that are worse than or comparable to those of Israel, but “one has to start somewhere.”
Revealing and sad, that's all.

“one has to start somewhere.” Of course Mr. Marez and I suggest your removal for step one.

As we speak the AGW people have swung into action and a conference is being proposed to battle this latest development. Fortunately Obamacare will be able to deal with any casualties cheaply and efficiently. Unfortunately the increased heaviness of things is seen to possibly disrupt air travel. Older hippies are reported to be largely unconcerned with this development (one quoted as saying "He ain't heavy he's my brother"). More news as we receive it.

Be a nice move.

I am afraid that CO2 will also become much heavier, and when all collapses into a ball, it will contribute to a sudden increase of temperature more than previously expected.

This piece takes the easy way out here, abetted by a NY Times editor who cut back Marez's quote to 5 words after the first version of the story included two paragraphs explaining the ASA's position in more detail. Here is the rest of the quote: "He argued that the United States has “a particular responsibility to answer the call for boycott because it is the largest supplier of military aid to the state of Israel.” While acknowledging that the same could be said of a number of oppressive governments, past and present, he said that in those countries, civil society groups had not asked his association for a boycott, as Palestinian groups have." Both of these things are true, but it's far easier for right-wing hacks to generate a reductive meme that pretends this is all Marez said. Irresponsible, shoddy journalism about a serious issue. Your readers deserve something better than a caricature of what was actually said.

And how, dear Public Poster, the rest of what he said impacts the quote? Please share with us. Cause to my taste it doesn't, the arguments you quote sound quite silly as well.

The real reason for the boycott is that Israel is covered in Jews. Liberals hate Jews. (They love dead Jews though.) Get rid of the Jews and every liberal will be happy.

SnoopyTheGoon said...

When in doubt, blame the Jews!

Yep, this is a good part of the real answer.

No doubt whatsoever, the Jooz are guilty.
